Design Description
Using their shared perspective living with a disability and with someone who is disabled, John and Martin share their own experiences and hopes for a world and a London where disabled people make up a large proportion of the population. For their design inspiration, they invited young wheelchair users to share their vision for a more accessible future. Their words are reproduced on this sculpture and Morph, quite literally has become the messenger. Through this design, Martin and John hope to open up conversations about inclusivity and how we can ensure that every young wheelchair user can have epic adventures as they go about their lives.
Artists Information
John and Martin are brothers.
Martin is a television presenter. Born with cerebral palsy, Martin has been a wheelchair user all of his life. For almost ten years Martin hosted CBBC’s Newsround and has covered two Paralympics and two consecutive Commonwealth Games. On top of this, Martin has represented Scotland at wheelchair basketball.
John is an artist and curator from Glasgow. A recent graduate from the Royal College of Art, he has worked as a curator and artist internationally. With a background in photography, much of John’s practice is based in the intersection between photography, sculpture and performance and aims to incorporate various degrees of curatorial practice too.
Buy a Morph at Auction
When the Trail ends, the super-sized Morph sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for Whizz Kidz. Whizz Kidz supports young people by providing the wheelchairs, equipment, support and confidence-building experiences they need, and campaigning for a more inclusive society. We hope to raise enough funds in the auction to allow 100 more young wheelchair users across England, Scotland and Wales be mobile, enabled and included.
